A little more than a month ago I applied at WomWorld Nokia for any Nokia Accessory or Nokia Booklet 3G for trial . I didn’t opted for a phone as Nokia Pakistan graciously provide them to me .
True to their word , soon I got an email from Lydia that I’ve been selected for a Booklet 3G and soon one will be sent to me and on 7th April I got an email from WOmWOrld Logistics that my Nokia Booklet 3G had been sent .
You can imagine my impatience , I set up the DHL tracking page as one of my Tabbed Homepages to daily monitor it’s movement .
The Nokia Booklet 3G arrived at Heathrow Airport London , the same day and from there the delay started .
The clearance from Heathrow took 7 days , I guess they weren’t expecting a trial Netbook be going to Pakistan and after seven days they reached their decision that it’s ok for it to be sent .
The Booklet arrived at Karachi airport 15th April and here another delay was waiting for it . The Customs at Karachi refused to clear the Booklet on account that they don’t understand that someone could sent a trial laptop to Pakistan and the one costing 650 British Pounds no way . After I watched it stuck in Customs for a couple of days I called DHL Pakistan for the status and than they asked me to submit a notarized affidavit on a Bond Paper that I will return the Netbook in a few days which I promptly did , still Customs refused to clear it .
My Booklet in hands of Customs , so near to me ( I live 15 min drive from airport ) yet so far , on top of that DHL Pakistan started their procrastination on it . I waited for a few more days and called them again and they asked me to submit a duty of Rs 19000 plus ( around 20 % of the Booklet value ) for it to be cleared . I was furious upon them that they waited so many days to tell me that and they were like we are going to call you but you called us first .
I again promptly arranged the PayOrder for the amount and to avoid any further delays , on Friday I contacted Country Manager DHL Pakistan through LinkedIn . He was quick and within an hour of submission of my grievance I got the reply and also phone calls and email feedback from DHL Pakistan .
Unfortunately the very same day , our government decide to declare Saturday a holiday for Government Departments and Banks to save electricity ( Yes we people are crazy ) and the clearance got delayed till Monday , it went smooth and on Tuesday , April 27th 2010 , 20 days after it was dispatched , DHL Pakistan ‘efficiently’ delivered me my Nokia Booklet 3G , not before charging me Rs 5500 for Warehouse and Misc charges
.
Folks this is the one and only Nokia Booklet 3G in Pakistan , as far as my knowledge , not even Nokia Pakistan has one in store .
In the upcoming posts I will be unboxing it and doing all things unthinkable to it
so stay tuned and if you want to ask anything about it , fireaway , just remember we have it only till 10th May and than have to depart with it ![]()
