Last week , I had a chance to play with the Nokia 5230 , courtesy Nokia Pakistan , costing just Rs 15,500 , the phone has just the right amount of features for the price with 3.2 Inch 640 X 360 nHD Resistive Touch Screen , capable of hand writing recognition , GPS , EDGE support , 2 MP Camera , 2 GB Memory Card Customized Home Screen with support for 20 contacts and full support for OVI features , it has won me over .
The box is the same as Nokia 5800 , same design with boxes in box to carry the phone and accessories .
In the first look the Nokia 5230 looks the same as Nokia 5800 and a a little closer look reveals the lack of 3G / front facing camera . Both phones are almost the same with 5230 having no WiFi , 2 MP ordinary Camera compared to 5800’s 3.2 MP Carl Zeiss and no flash .
Differences end at featureset , in functionality Nokia 5230 and Noia 5800 are almost the same .
The provided accessories with Nokia 5230 include
- Bl-5J battery same as in Nokia 5800 and Nokia N900
- Stylus Same Size as of Noia 5800 and can be interchanged with that
- Plectrum – attached with holding loop for ease of writing
- WH-102 color matching headset - I didn’t like them , they are too plain with no media buttons .
On the top of the phone are the Power Button , Mini USB port and 3.5mm Audio Jack
At the bottom is the Mic and the ridge to open the back panel.
On the right side are the Camera Key , Screen Lock and Volume Keys
On the left are the slots to insert Memory Card and SIM Card - Nokia has learnt from past experiences and this time has added a small platform so that the user may not accidently insert the SIM Card and Memory Card under it’s slot - trust me I’ve done that and have sent my phone for repairs . It’s the small things which count in customer satisfaction
At the back is the 2 MP Camera without flash . Camera is the Achilles heal of Nokia 5230 , it takes the worst pictures in low light conditions and even inside the quality is not as good as desired , it only works well in the sunny outdoors .
Removing the back panel is easy just hold it by the ridge and pull , it will come off easy . The back panel has the instructions to insert and remove SIM Card and also holds the Stylus.
The inside of the phone is plain with the IC Chip exposed and the SIM Slot window to slide out the SIM and Camera housing
Overall I found it to be a simple phone with enough feature set to justify the price , Nokia is promoting it in an innovative way in Pakistan with the Nokia 5230 experience bus and is getting a great response from public.
What’s your say do you like the phone – as for me It has Won me Over
