Nokia 5530 Xpress Music at the first glance look like the smaller sibling of Nokia 5800 Xpress Music , sharing the same stylus settings and looks abd the same Media Bar , take a closer look it does not have a front facing Camera
On the left side is the slot for SIM Card and Memory Card , but unlike the Nokia 5800 XM , you cannot simply just pry open the cover and push the Micro SD and SIM Card in , here the stylus comes into play .
To avoid accidental opening thus breaking of cover , Nokia ha affixed the slot cover in such a way that without using the stylus’s pointed end you cannot open the cover and the same goes for insertion of SIM Card and Micro SDCard , they both has to be pushed in with the Stylus . A Little cumbersome for use .
Those used to inserting the MicroSD card with the connecters facing up has to be careful as in 5530 XM , the connecters has to be facing down . I almost had the card stuck in the slot . Want to take out the Micro SD , still you have to use the stylus to push it in so the spring mechanism can push it out . The Stykus is at the bottom of the right side and can be slide out
On the Right side of the phone are the Volume Keys , Screen Lock and Camera Keys , pretty basic in their function and no hidden surprises for a seasoned Nokia user.
On the top sits the lone Power Button which also controls the Profile mode as needed
and on the Bottom is the Micro USB slot , 3.5mm Audio Jack and Mini 2.0mm charger pin slot , The Micro USB port is covered to protect it from dust . The phone does not feature USB charging
The provided stylus with the Nokia 5530 Xpress Music is the standard one available with the Nokia 5800 , a little smaller though given the phone size . It can be easily slide out and is very responsive on the screen.
On the back side of the phone there is the 3.2 MP Camera ( non Carl Zeiss ) with a single LED Flash and Nokia written on the cover . There is no kick stand or Camera Cover to protect the Lens.
Removing the back cover is no easy feat , the first time , I had the Nokia people open it for me , cause I was afraid I may break it . The cover opening procedure is simple , there is a small indention near Camera , just stick your finger nail and pry it open . You may have to use some pressure to pry it open and at one point it may feel that you are going to snap the cover in two , but believe me it will not happen , it’s made of plastic fiber and difficult to break
Once opened , on the back of the cover , you can see SIM removal procedure which is the same as of Nokia 5800 , insert the Stylus in the given slot on the IC Chip and Slide Out the Card
On the top by the Camera , I thought there is some taping when I first saw the phone in the pics , but on touch it’s just a design , I wonder why Nokia choose to add designs hidden from view .
The phone is powered by BL-4U battery which can be easily inserted and taken Out
To Close the back cover , first insert the bottom hinges in their slot and push the rest of the body down . The cover will lock instantly ad will stay firmly at place.
In other technical details the phone features

- 70 Mb User available Memory , 20 mb more than that on N97

My Thoughts About the Phone
Nokia 5530 ioverall s a sturdy phone with a good build quality , sharing the same DNA as it’s elder sibling Nokia 5800 XM that even OVI Store recognize it as a 5800 XM
. There are no creaks and loose ends but I do feel something moving inside when I shake the phone
Yes I abuse my phones to get the best out of them . UPDATE : It’s the loose battery which wobbles when I shake the p, ( Thanks Qasim for the update )
My last words for the hardware are Good things come in big packages , the better comes in small . Still a small complain I have is with the price , currently the phone is marketed in Pakistan for Rs 21,000 to Rs 23,000 ( USD 250 to USD 275 ) while the Nokia 5800XM is being sold for Rs 24,500 ( USD 295 ) so for a small premium I can get Carl Zeiss Lens and GPS and a bigger screen - The best price in my opinion for 5530 XM would have been Rs 19,000 / USD 225 for it to get better accepted . ~~ Just got the update that the price has fallen to Rs 20,500 all I can say is let it fall , let it fall ![]()
