Although Nokia5530 XM is smaller in size as compared to it’s elder sibling Nokia 5800 XM , it brings the new meaning to Good Things Comes In Small Packages.
Although the base of 5530 and 5800 are same i.e Series 60 v5 and when OVI Store is connected on Nokia 5530 XM it’s recognized as 5800 XM still in functionality Nokia has brought it one step further with User Interface Enhancements .
One of the greatest improvements over the Flagship N97 is that 5530 has above 70mb of User available memory unlike 50mb on N97 causing it to hang.
Press the Menu Key and it will be like Broadway curtains are splitting. The screen will split from between and slide back to the opposite directions to shift to and from standby to menu key .
Nokia 5530 features the carrousel type 20 contact scroll on the Standby Menu . This is not your standard contact list with name and telephone numbers , but these are smart contacts when I receive or make a phone call to the particular contact or even send or receive a text message , I can see it on the history list for that contact , want to be more closer to the contact , you can even add their RSS feed either from their blog or Facebook profile . In case of a missed call or SMS the contact icon will show it visually .
Like 5800 XM , 5530 XM also features intelligent keyboard in contacts , if you want to search for Farhan and you also have contacts as Frank and Fiona , type F and the keypad will only show you A , I and R letters corresponding to the available contacts next letters , no need to hunt around 26 letters anymore
One development which Nokia brought over 5800 is T9 to QWERTY keyboard auto switch based on accelerometer thanks to S60mobi to bring it to my attention on twitter , keep the phone in portrait mode and use T9 , shift to landscape and it shifts to QWERTY keyboard.
The scrolling now seems much smoother , this coming from my experience with N97 use where I had to drag my finger to move the screen , I’ve developed a technique to use the scroll bar only to scroll the menu , else always end up selecting an App instead , Nokia please release Kinetic Scrolling for 5530 also beside for 5800
OVI Store is still web based and does not work as an installed client on the phone and recognize the phone as 5800 XM
OVI Maps does not work , I don;t know why , I understand the phone does not have inbuilt GPS but still I can always use a Bluetooth GPS Receiver , if it’s working for you please inform .
Being a Music Phone ( I am still unable to check out the Music Menu ) there is no Office folder so no editing for Office files via Quick Office , a bummer considering Nokia 5800 has it .
Overall the experience I had the phone was great , in my 5 days of use , not a single hiccup , the internet flowed smoothly , WiFi connected like a charm , but it annoyed me asking all the time to select a connection when using in Offline / No SIM mode . The interface was responsive , my only wish if the phone gets Kinetic scrolling with its’ falling price in Pakistan , it may become one of the best and most inexpensive touch based ‘smartphone’ in the market well until %230 Xm arrives .
Below is the video of the interface in action , they are rather crude as I was unable to find my long lost mini tripod
Do tell me what you think of the Nokia 5530 Xpress Music
