Nokia E72 , the perfect travelling companion

by Farhan on March 30, 2010

Nowadays I’m touring lower Punjab area of Pakistan , mainly Rahim Yar Khan and Bahawalpur cities and my E72 had proved to be a perfect travelling companion

E 72 is not an ordinary phone , with it’s software and hardware capabilities coupled with a long battery life , it didn’t put me down the whole trip .

When I landed at Rahim Yar Khan International airport , I started Nokia’s Here and Now and it was in seconds telling me the weather conditions and POIs around me using Lonely Planet .

On the way to the hotel , I kept my friends and family updated about how Rahim Yar Khan looks like taking instant photos through it’s 5 MP Camera which took beautiful pictures even from a fast moving car and was shared on Twitter , Facebook and Four Square through Gravity .

The camera even worked well with the inbuilt Nokia Multi Scanner powered by ABBYY Mobile OCR Engine which helped me in entering the contact data of my clients straight from their visiting cards .

The camera didn’t let me down at other events when I just wanted to take a quick photos of a place or event for record

The QWERTY keyboard was a godsend , with me updating my status every 10 min on different platforms , on an Alpha Numeric keypad , my fingers must have burnt out and tying out memos and notes on the phone

While on the move , I was near my office with OVI Files as I was able to access my assistant’s computer and pick up files from there while the inbuilt Nokia Messaging kept all my 8 email accounts updated .

At night , when there wasn’t much to do , the inbuilt FM Radio and dedicated Audio chip brought the party in my room , while I also cranked it up with plenty of MP3s stored on the memory card and when I was in no mood for music with Mobi Reader I had a library of a 100 books at my disposal.

On the travel between Rahim Yar Khan and Bahawapur , a 200 km , 3 hr journey across the beautiful countryside , I discovered OVI Maps which let me share my location and current snap of the place with my friends on Facebook . The A-GPS was fast and accurate and gave me the direction to reach my destination at PTDC motel at Bahawalpur.

I had access to WiFi at Rahim Yar Khan , but at Bahawalpur , tethering through the Bluetooth kept my laptop connected to the world .

When the lights went out , the inbuilt LED flash converted into a bright flashlight with a touch of button to light up the night and despite it’s longer battery life with my constant usage of GPS , Net and Camera straining it , the phone switches to Power Saving Mode doing what it does best , act like a phone J

There were just a few things which Nokia E72 is capable of and useful during my business travel , right now it’s schedule alarm is ringing reminding me that in 15 minutes my ride will be here to take me to the airport so I better wrapup and be ready to leave .

Have you travelled with E72 , what were your favorite software and hardware attributes of it , do share in comments .

Interesing read and reivew of E72. However the reviews on Gsmarena site discuss some issues with this set. Have these issues bugged you as well?

I'd been using E72 for the past 3 months , except occasional hangups while running 8 plus programs I never had any problem , just keep your firmware to the latest and there won't be a problem
