Nokia + HCL = A Billion Consumers

by Farhan on January 28, 2009

Nokia has just announced their upcoming Joint Venture with Hindustan Computers Limited to give the Indian Consumers an easy access to mobile entertainment and other Value Added Services .

The JV will be in full effect once the regulatory approvals are met .

India has always been a lucrative market with it’s huge customer base with increasing disposable income and growing need for newer technologies and entertainment by the masses .

India is Nokia’s second largest market after China and Nokia already has it’s largest  manufacturing plant ( in terms of employee strength ) based at Nokia Telecom Park in Chennai  which with over 8000 workers and has already produced 200 million handsets in 3 years for the domestic and export markets.  ( Source Hindu Business Line ), where else Nokia just announced their Hungary factory had produced their 500 millionth phone since 1999 , so Chennai is all set to take over Komarom plant’s crown in coming years .

For Mr D. Shiva Kumar -  VP and Managing Director Nokia India “An important part of our future distribution strategies in India is that we want to ensure that our value added services and entertainment offerings are readily available to all consumers,”  “This arrangement is a natural continuation of our long term collaboration with HCL in India.”

Mr. Ajai Chowdhry, founder, Chairman and CEO of HCL Infosystems, added: “We are excited about this opportunity as we believe it brings further value to our customers and Indian consumers in general by offering seamless mobile value added services and entertainment content.”

I’m looking positively towards this JV as this will not only give Nokia an edge over it’s competitors but with always available offerings they can also increase revenue from non handset sales .

Wishing best of luck to Nokia
