Nokia Ramadan Applications

by Farhan on August 8, 2010

One of the holiest month for Muslims , Ramadan /  Ramzan , is just around the corner and Nokia like every year is there to assist Muslims to make the most of it through their Ramadan Application Suite .

Introduced in 2007 , Nokia Ramadan Application Suite is updated every year with newer and better applications , I remember when I first installed them on my E61 , they were my main source of reading Quran on the go , at the time GPS was not available on phones so applications were not as developed , later when I went for Hajj ( Holy Pilgrimage for Muslims ) with my N95 8GB , I took the Nokia Hajj and Umra , Quran and other applications installed on my phone which helped me a lot during my travel .

According to Haisam Jamal, General Manager – Nokia Levant “ The overwhelming response and feedback that we received from last year’s offering and the number of downloads that exceeded a million, allowed us to improve and expand this year’s application offering. Nokia users have now a single and easy access to many of the cherished experiences that Muslims like to be close to, and keep them connected to Ramadan. The applications this year also support a wider range of devices including both touch and non-touch Nokia devices, and are available in more languages"

For the year 2010 , the Nokia Ramadan applications include

Quran

Quran :  The Holiest book for Muslims and a must to read for every Muslim . The applications feature  The Holy Quran In Othmani Font , which makes it easier to read complete with bookmark and search options .  You can also download Audio files by Al Huthaify , Al Sudayes or Al Ajmy and even translation which is in Arabic by default can be changed to Urdu .

The applications also offers Quran Memorization in which you can have one verse or more repeat as many time as you want from a particular Ayat and memorize it and read the Quran correctly , Tajweed , which informs on the rules on how to read the Quran .

Note :   Tajweed is only in Arabic and is not useful for me living in Pakistan ( don’t know Arabic)

To get Audio download , a 1mb Sound Plugin is required and you can download individual Surahs as per your desire .  The longest Surah in Quran , Surah Baqar,  will take 9.9mb of space and Surah Al Fatiha will take only 0.6mb ( checked on Al Sydayes recitation )

For Urdu meanings , the download is only 1.66 MB but requires a restart for font installation .

HadithHadith :  offers the best Islamic Books covering the sayings of Prophet Mohammad (PBUH) including Sahih al-Bukhari, Sahih Muslim, Riyad us-Saliheen, Holy Hadiths, Arba ’in An Nawawi and Sunan Tirmizi in their complete text and books , however all of them are in Arabic so no use outside MEA Region .  You can also Download Audio Files to listen to them .

( I didn’t further explored as I don’t understand Arabic )

SalatMoaqit Salat or Salat TImings :  Salat on time is compulsory for every Muslim and when travelling , finding the timings is one of the most difficult things to do , with Nokia Salat Timings ( Moaqit Salat )  muslims can not only find Salat Timings but also the Qibla Direction ( through GPS )  to face towards and pray for 1000 cities in 200 countries all over the world .  To make the experience more blissful , the applications also provides the supplications and hadith after Azan ( Call for Prayers ) and can also play Azan with different voices .

Mecca MEdinaMecca and Madina :  the application was earlier known as Hajj and Umrah and covers The holiest cities for Muslims and Nokia provides information about pilgrimage to them . It contains important information such as telephone numbers , health information , transportation information along with pictures and information of places to see like MAsjid Quba , MAsjid Qiblataeen etc along with their GPS locations and free Navigation to them via OVI Maps .

MozzakarMozakkar :  or Supplications has collection of Daily Azkar with translation in English , Urdu and French .

For the year 2010 , Nokia has added two new applications to their Ramadan Application Suite .

Beyot AllahBoyoot Allah :  looking for a Mosque /  Masjid in a foreign city , just start the applications and find the main mosques in the city .  It can also help you in finding your favorite preacher and see where they will be in coming days like Abdul Rehman Al Sudes will be giving Khutba on Friday at  Khana-e-Kaba in Mecca etc

The application is difficult is use and requires much more simplicity as  it’s first year  , we can expect this but hope next year a better version is developed.

ArabicaAnother application for 2010 is Arabica , going to Saudi Arabia or any other Arabic speaking country , it could be a life saver as it contains all the daily usage words in Arabic accent and can also be used as an aid to learn Arabic .  The applications contains , Arabic words for daily use with their English and Arabic meaning and pronounciation , Rules to speak Arabic , Letters , Facts , Parts of Speech , Situations , Accents and a Test .  you can also mark your required words in Favorites. Arabica is a complete all in one application for anyone travelling to Arabian Peninsula for visit or business.

Since last year , Nokia has put a limitation on the applications making them usable only a limited number of phones for which we created much hue and cry but this year too a limited number of phones are supported.including Nokia N97 mini,Nokia E72,Nokia E52,Nokia X6,Nokia 5230,Nokia 5530,Nokia C5,Nokia 5235,Nokia 5800,Nokia E5,Nokia 6700 slide and Nokia 5233.

Any how Nokia Ramadan applications are here and  available on OVI Store for free for the above mentioned phones . The applications are developed by Asga Tech , a Premier Nokia Forum member and supplier of Ramadan applications for Nokia since the program’s inception .

Overall Nokia has made a good effort to reach the one billion plus Muslims and their efforts are widely appreciated now all depends on how Nokia markets their edge over competitors in the Muslim World.
