The Holy month of Ramadan is almost upon us ( it has started in KSA and UAE ) and Nokia is looking towards benefiting the most from it through their Ramadan Application Suite .
On 10th August 2010 , Nokia Pakistan held the Press event for their Ramadan Application in which bloggers including me , from Zambeel.com , Imran Hussain of ithinkdiff.com , Shiraz of Progmic.com and Jadoon of merrycode.com were invited.
The event started with Adeel Hashmi , Comm Manager Nokia giving a welcome address followed by Mr Imran Khalid Mehmood , General Manager Nokia Pakistan.
Imran mostly talked about OVI Store and it’s penetration in worldwide market such as Ovi Store penetration , local content development ( From Pakistan ) such as Cricket Companion , Dawn News and Heroes of Islam .
After Imran came Haseeb Ihtisham - Head of Marketing – Nokia Pakistan. Now Haseen showed that he is the marketing guy , using a N97 Mini , he had the phone hookedup with the projector through TV Out .
Haseeb talked about the Apps and their importance in Pakistani market , according to him , Muslim World is a big market for Nokia , hey we are a billion plus people who are very sentimental about religion and even Chinese are selling us Islamic themed cell phones
He gave a brief introduction of the apps and their uses , keeping in touch with Pakistan related content he limited himself to Quran , Salat Timings and Mozakkar ( Supplications ) as other apps like Hadith , Boyot Allah were in Arabic and/ or didn’t have local content .
He covered the content well , but was lacking at couple of places as he said that Ramadan applications are working on 16 phones while they work on only 12 phones as per OVI Store.
After him the Q&A session started in which some interesting information was passed on that Nokia is working on a navigation maps for Pakistan which will be available soon , beside the content in Arabic are in process to be translated to English and Urdu .
Over all the event was a success , Nokia did conveyed their message to the Press and to complement that had Billboards erected all over the city about Ramadan Apps
Last but not the least the giveaway for Ramadan apps event was most appropriate a box of assorted Bateel Dates what else can I ask for .
Thank You Nokia , below are some more pics of the event for your viewing
