OVI Store – A Hindrance in Application Spread

by Farhan on August 3, 2009

Nokia’s very own App Store under their umbrella brand OVI is becoming more of a nuisance . What Nokia did wrong with the store is that it made it phone bound i.e. if I connect E71 I’ll see a different set of applications available to me and if I connect E66 some other applications are offered beside the fact that they both share the same OS .

I’m saying this in connection to Nokia Ramadan Applications , a set of 7 applications available  through OVI Store for Nokia E66 , 6720 Classic , 5800 Xpress Music , E75 , 6120 Classic , 6730 Classic , 5130 Express Music , 6300 , 6303 Classic , N86 8MP , N97 and 7210 Super Nova

So Nokia is covering Series 60 v3 FP1 , FP2 and Series 40 but if I having Nokia E71 try to access the OVI Store for Ramadan applications , I cannot get it but on E66 I can .

Nokia please explain me the logic behind it ?

What I suggest Nokia should do is to divide the applications according to the Firmware i.e. S60v3 , S60v3 FP1 , S60v3 FP2 , S60v 5 ( Touch ) and S40 that way a wide range of devices can get applications meant for them instead of a selected few.

Nokia what’s your say on it

Ramadan apps are not supported on X6 which was a surprise to me and beyond logic

Nokia has a weird policy about which apps are meant for which phone , you need to buy Ramadan apps to make them work .
