With Nokia E72’s business capabilities , it won’t take much time for it to manage all your email accounts and business affairs and with the phone holding much of the business information , securing it becomes necessary .
Sure , you can buy third party software such as Guardian Platinum but Nokia has builtin tools in the E72 to keep it secure from prying eyes .
Go to Menu , Ctrl Panel , Settings , General , Security , Phone and SIM Card and here you will find a number of builtin security features which are must for securing data
Setting up of Lock Code
The first step is to setup a custom lock code , Nokia’s default lock code is 12345 and as everyone knows it , beats the concept of security , to have your custom Lock Code , scroll down to Lock Code and select it , it will ask you for the Lock Code , enter 12345 and it will than ask you for the new Lock Code , by default the Lock Code is set as numerical code and if you want to enter Alpha Numerical code , just press the Numeric Mode key ( the Diagonal Arrow key on the bottom Left hand corner ) to switch modes , enter the Lock Code twice and it will be set.
Phone Autolock Period
Locks the phone after a user specific defined time , although it lets you receive calls in lock mode , making calls and access to data is authorized after entering the code . So if someone has picked your phone while it’s lying around , they cannot access anything inside
Remote Phone Locking
A very handy feature , suppose you have forgotten your phone somewhere and hadn’t activated the Phone Autolock mode , no worries with Remote Phone Locking , just send a pre determined SMS to your phone from any number and the phone will be instantly locked remotely .
Memory Card Locking
Worried that although you can lock your phone remotely , still someone can have access to your data on memory card , Nokia has though of the security solution for that too . Go to Menu , Office , File Manager choose Memory Card , Choose Options soft key , scroll down to Memory Card Password and choose Set and enter your Password and the memory card will be secured . A secure Memory card is locked to the particular device with which the passcode is set and will not work with any other phone without a password neither it can be read by a computer ( through Card Reader ) . If you want to use the same memory card in another phone , either you can unlock it before taking out or enter passcode in the other phone .
What if you forgot your Lock Codes and Passwords
A possibility and here the only solution is hard reset . In case of the phone where you cannot even access the keypad to hard reset you have to take the battery out and reinsert it to shut down the phone and start it by pressing
Green Key ( Call Receive ) , * Key , and no 3 Key and than press the Power Button and hold them till Connecting People Logo appears on the screen for it to go for Hard Reset .
For Memory Card , the phone will not let you format it , the best solution is to format it using a Computer or Digital Camera ( Tested it and it works )
My suggestion is to keep your Nokia secure with the inbuilt tools cause you never know in whose hands it will someday fall into
