Nokia has recently introduced their E73 Mode ( same like E72 with some spec changes ) for T-Mobile USA and to make this launch and to entice people to check it out , they have launched a ‘Scavenger Hunt ‘ in which the winner will get a E73 Mode or a similar phone .

The Hunt has already started from 3rd of June and will last till 16th of June ( 10 Business Days , Nokia does not play on holidays ) , the primary requirement for the hunt is having an OVI Email account , which is free and extremely easy to setup at mail.ovi.com

For those looking for the questions , all of them can be found at Official OVI Blog and for those worried about that they missed the first Five questions , don’t’ worry the contest is still open for all and you can answer all via email to NokiaE73Mode@ovi.com.

If you are a Nokia newbie , don’t worry there are plenty of hints given with the questions and you can answer all the questions within minutes

To keep yourself up to date with the happenings at the Hunt and Nokia you can follow the hunt at @ovidailyapp on twitter and also post your thoughts with the hashtag #E73hunt

I’ve just submitted 5 answers and waiting for the sixth

Wishing you all a happy hunting

Winner : E72 , although it has a marginally better battery 1500 MAh vs 1200 MAh on E5 , better power management makes it last longer , we won’t count the standby time as we use our phones and don’t keep them standby

Misc

E72 has a dedicated Audio Chip which E5 doesn’t

Conclusion :

In many aspects , E5 stands equal to E72 , and with an updated standby screen showing contacts and their status makes it a true social networking and messaging phone . However E72’s target market is different , it’s users are those on the corporate world who uses BlackBerry and for them looks are most important the sector in which E5 does not even come close to the E72 . However with a large choice of colors and a much lower price , Euro 180 as compared to Euro 360 of E72 launch price ( in Pakistan – current price Euro 240) it’s acceptability among the target market for E63 will be great .

We won’t call it an improvement over E72 except the standby screen which we hope E72 will also get , but it’s a winner over E63 . Our purchase advice to E72 users is to forgo the E5 but those using and want to replace E63 or looking for one should wait for E5 as it offers better bang for the buck .

Nowadays I’m touring lower Punjab area of Pakistan , mainly Rahim Yar Khan and Bahawalpur cities and my E72 had proved to be a perfect travelling companion

E 72 is not an ordinary phone , with it’s software and hardware capabilities coupled with a long battery life , it didn’t put me down the whole trip .

When I landed at Rahim Yar Khan International airport , I started Nokia’s Here and Now and it was in seconds telling me the weather conditions and POIs around me using Lonely Planet .

On the way to the hotel , I kept my friends and family updated about how Rahim Yar Khan looks like taking instant photos through it’s 5 MP Camera which took beautiful pictures even from a fast moving car and was shared on Twitter , Facebook and Four Square through Gravity .

The camera even worked well with the inbuilt Nokia Multi Scanner powered by ABBYY Mobile OCR Engine which helped me in entering the contact data of my clients straight from their visiting cards .

The camera didn’t let me down at other events when I just wanted to take a quick photos of a place or event for record

The QWERTY keyboard was a godsend , with me updating my status every 10 min on different platforms , on an Alpha Numeric keypad , my fingers must have burnt out and tying out memos and notes on the phone

While on the move , I was near my office with OVI Files as I was able to access my assistant’s computer and pick up files from there while the inbuilt Nokia Messaging kept all my 8 email accounts updated .

At night , when there wasn’t much to do , the inbuilt FM Radio and dedicated Audio chip brought the party in my room , while I also cranked it up with plenty of MP3s stored on the memory card and when I was in no mood for music with Mobi Reader I had a library of a 100 books at my disposal.

On the travel between Rahim Yar Khan and Bahawapur , a 200 km , 3 hr journey across the beautiful countryside , I discovered OVI Maps which let me share my location and current snap of the place with my friends on Facebook . The A-GPS was fast and accurate and gave me the direction to reach my destination at PTDC motel at Bahawalpur.

I had access to WiFi at Rahim Yar Khan , but at Bahawalpur , tethering through the Bluetooth kept my laptop connected to the world .

When the lights went out , the inbuilt LED flash converted into a bright flashlight with a touch of button to light up the night and despite it’s longer battery life with my constant usage of GPS , Net and Camera straining it , the phone switches to Power Saving Mode doing what it does best , act like a phone J

There were just a few things which Nokia E72 is capable of and useful during my business travel , right now it’s schedule alarm is ringing reminding me that in 15 minutes my ride will be here to take me to the airport so I better wrapup and be ready to leave .

Have you travelled with E72 , what were your favorite software and hardware attributes of it , do share in comments .

The ad is doomed to fail in Karachi and here’s my thoughts on it

The Font on the screen is way too big and many people has already asked is it the font size on E72 and I’ve to say no but with Font Magnifier you can enlarge the fonts although it’s not being used on the phone in this ad

The matter on the right is only on the print ad not on the Bill Boards but still who reads all that and

Why Nokia has E63 and E52 along with E72 , which phone they are trying to sell ?? and if they are trying to sell Nokia Messaging , please show it to me .

“ The right words sent at the Right Time can Change Everything “ , what this caption means is it a text device or an email device , there is Gmail written on the top Right corner of the ad but it does not look like Nokia messaging .

At the bottom in small and almost invisible on Billboard are mentioned OVI , GMAIL , Cybernet ( Local Pakistan ISP ) and Windows Live. Again what’s the use of all this when it makes no sense

We believe that ripping apart an advertising is easy but making it better is difficult and Making a new one is even harder

So we’ll go for the hardest part and here are some Sense Applied proposed Captions and writeups , none of us at Sense Applied are graphics expert so sorry no visuals for now

We think the main competitor of E72 in Pakistan is Blackberry which now being offered by all cellular service providers and is in use by many corporate and causal users so we thought on taking BlackBerry head on

Theme : Cost Cutting

Caption : Cut the B [I] S ( to look more like BS ) cost , Save Rs 11,700 annually with email solution on Nokia E72 ( in small font - based on current BIS and unlimited GPRS rate )

Writeup and Explanation : To be posted near major financial centers and offices , with a silhouette of Blackberry under the B I S with BS more prominent . With current BIS subsctiption rates at Rs 1250 per month and unlimited Data rate at Rs 500 per month , the saving is Rs 750 per month X 12 X 30 % tax

Theme : Ease of Use

Caption : Plug and Play Email /

        1 ,2 3 , You’ve got mail /

Start Your E72 , Start Messaging , Enter User Name and Password Press Next and You’ve got Mail ( in large Bullet Points )

Writeup : Show the ease of use and out of box email setup on Nokia E72 , no need to subscribe to BIS services and wait for it to get activated , just plugin the SIM and get going .

Theme : Any network Access

Caption : Any Network - Your Email Delivered

Writeup : Show a number of SIM Cards spread around the E72 , with BB Services the user is bound to use one network unless have services activated on all SIMS with E72 and Nokia Messaging all user requires is data access to get email no matter which SIM or network is being used .

Theme : International Data Cost Cutting

Caption : Afraid of Data Roaming Charges - Access your email on any local SIM where ever you are

Writeup : to be placed at Airport International Departure lounges or on way to the Airport - International Data Charges are a major expense for a BB user who wants to have access to email while on the move . With no other solution than to have use the local Cellular on Data Roaming thus incurring budget breaking charges with Nokia E72 , they can use the local SIM and local data network to have access to emails . The Billboard should have a number of Interntional SIMs from Etisalat to ATT to VodaPhone to Idea and Rogers .

Theme : Hit Blackberry on Features

Captions : 262 K or 16 Million - Let your eyes do the math ( Hitting on Blackberry’s 262K screen as compared to Nokia’s 16 million color screen )

Get Access to your PC and dedicated 10 GB Secure Online Storage - OVI FIles on E72 with Blackberry silhouette going HUH ?

Leave the Ball to Kids , It’s all about Touch - Nokia E72 now with Optical Navi Key ( With pics of Enlarged Navi key and BB Ball weeping / getting hit in a corner )

Enhanced productivity - OVI Store on E72 ( BB Still has to launch their APP Store for Pakistan )

Free Drive / Walk Navigation License included with every E72 – Pakistan soon to be covered .

These were a few captions which SenseApplied thought of , what do you think will they work for Nokia in Pakistan or not , do inform us in comments

My phone repository now has a new addition , the Nokia E72 , Black , it’s a beauty and I’ve fallen for it at first sight but the phone does not feel like mine until I’ve hacked / cracked / jail broken it after which I can install all the experimental unsigned files I can get my hands on and either sign them for the E72 or Hack the phone so it accepts unsigned files for installation .

The First step in hacking Nokia E72 is to obtain a Cer ( Certificate ) and Key Files made for it’s IMEI .

1) Go to opda.hk and click on OPDA Free Cer Applying

2) Register here and Click on My Certificates and Choose Apply Cer

3) Enter the Phone IMEI and data and wait for some time ( I got my Certificate and Key File in 5 Hrs but times may vary )

4) Get the Signsis software from http://www.gosymbian.com/dhscr/download/dwl_ssis_uk.php?name=SignSIS-GUI , download the software

5) Get the Hello OX Software from http://www.4shared.com/file/137782202/e2408b8e/HelloOX2v203Unsigned.html

6) Sign the Hello OX Software by entering the Phone IMEI Number , Choose DEv Cert and Key File locations , Password remain 0123456 , Choose Input File and Output File location

7) Sometimes the SignSis gives an error so simply change the outputfile name with .sisx at end and it will be fixed

8) Connect your E72 through PC Suite to your Computer

9) Install Hello OX Signed or whatever name you have given it

10 ) Run the file on E72 and your phone is hacked .

Hacking has too sides , it can be used for both ethical testing and unethical software piracy , now it’s upto you how you want to use it

Vietnam based Tech Site itech.vn has posted images of purportedly upcoming another Nokia E Series Device , codename Mystic .

An initial overview based on images shows it have

S60V3 FP 2 ,

Full QWERTY keyboard with keys much like the E63

No Torch ( atleast no shortcut )

5 MP Camera with Single LED Flash

Speaker Mounted near the Camera like E72

Two Soft Keys , Call End and Send Keys , One Home / Menu key and One Email / Messaging Key

5 Way Stainless Steel D-Pad

Plastic Body with Stainless Steel Cover and option Keys

maybe 3G with Front Mounted Camera and Ambient Sensor

These were the specs which others have talked about , what people haven’t seen are

The Contacts is labelled - Phone Book 2

Browser / Internet is labeled Web Browser NG

Ctrl Panel had been called Settings as in older Symbian models

Log has been labeled Logs

Messaging had been Labeled Messages

There is Download on Mystic but no OVI Store icon

Another Folder named Internet ??? Isn’t all this is covered in the Web Browser

No Battery bar ?

A pictorial comparison of Mytics’s Menu to E72’s menu is below

In my opinion the software shows it being a fake as although Nokia do make changes on their menu in almost every upcoming phone but icon names seems fishy . On the hardware side it’s a well built copy and if Nokia decides to pursue this idea it could be the mid level E Series Messaging Device .

So what do you think is it a reincarnation of E72 in the E6x model like E63 was to E71 or a FAKE ??

Nokia E72 is made for messaging and email is an integral part of it. With support for Nokia Messaging software , it can access upto 10 email accounts with full html support and even plays Youtube Videos embedded in the email .

The best way to setup email on Nokia E72 is to make an account on email.nokia.com , add all the email account you want it to access. It’s a three setep solution , click new , add email account , click save and you’ll be all set .

On the Nokia E72 , go to email setup and add Nokia Messaging login and password and it will sync with Nokia Messaging server and download all account information and emails itself .

Later you can add or remove email accounts either through phone or the website . Nokia does not store any email on their servers so privacy is guaranteed and deleting email from phone will also delete it from your email server .

The video below will give you an overview on how to setup Nokia Messaging on your E72

You have gotten your Nokia E72 and the first thing you want to do is put all your contacts and other data in it from your old Nokia phone .

One way to do it is through PC Suite through which you can shift contacts , bookmarks and images but if you want to truly make the E72 like your own , you need to use Switch

Switch allows you to transfer not only contacts and bookmarks but also SMS , MMS , Call data , Landmarks , Calendar Entries , Notes etc through Bluetooth directly from another compatible Nokia phone .

To start Switch , go to CTRL Panel and choose Switch . It will ask you to turn BT on other phone , and your phone ,make a secure connection with passcodes on both and let you choose the data you want to shift . After all is done , Switch starts shifting the data making E72 carry the same data as yout previous phone down to last call made , received or missed .

I think shift is a great application , helps to bypass the PC with data transfers on the fly . In E72 , the added feature is that it sets up a link with the previous phone to sync ( send and receive ) data between it and E72 .

The Video below will further explain how to use Switch .
