Nokia on their Beta Labs has recently introduced their project collaboration software Nokia Easy Meet , although a new software , I’ve already covered the software on 12th Jan 2009 at http://senseapplied.com/index.php/easymeet-lets-meet-on-phone/ when the application was introduced in CES Barcelona .

The application brings team effort together where ever everyone is located and allows remote commenting , meeting minutes , chat even VOIP  over a certain presentation or graphic .

The best thing I like about Easy Meet that it’s not Nokia dependent , I simultaneously was using it on iPhone , E71 and Firefox with same login multiple connections , on iPhone it seemed to work better with it’s larger and pinch and zoom feature followed by on E71 lastly on Firefox 3 beta where half the screen was  cut off and not responding .

The set up on Nokia Easy Meet is very simple and learning curve is non existant

1)  Go to easymeet.nokia.com

2)  Register yourself ( you don’t need previous OVI account )

3)  Easy Meet will send you an email or message on your cell phone and you are all set

To start sharing on easy meet , start with login at easymeet.nokia.com either on your pc

1)  Click on New on the upper right corner

2) Setup the Name of the meeting , the time , date , Duration and Validity ( meeting can also be made permenant for long term projects ) .

3)  On the same screen also enter Participants Emails , and their mobile numbers for Email and SMS notifications ( it’s free) , You can also setup Voice Conference which I’ve yet to use

4) Click on Create Meeting

5)  Another page will open with your meeting name

6) Click on Active meeting name ( note if the meeting time has passes or is future , you cannot access that meeting  )

7)  Once the meeting has started you can see the participants in the right hand column , you can add files whether they be local i.e. on your hard disk or Remote from OVI Files     

With the participants you can chat and they can send comments on the presentation .  Work able on all remote terminals , I’ve used it on iPhone , E71 and Firefox on my PC

With Palm Pre stealing all the thunder at CES , Nokia was quietly introducing newer technologies and concepts which goes way beyond ‘multi tasking’ Nokia offers multi user collaboration on mobile through EasyMeet.

EasyMeet is Nokia’s mobile collaboration and and communication system  making on the go web conferencing a reality be it in the confines of your office corridor or out tracking in the woods .

With EasyMeet users can use the phone to attend and invite others to online meetings to view , share and collaborate on documents created and shared remotely . The content if found inappropriate can also be notified to Nokia

The services offered are Voice  , Chat , Presentation sharing , White board , Application Sharing , Video Conference .

You can try it for free at  http://easymeet.nokia.com from the mobile device to experience an EasyMeet ( Video , Whiteboard and are not activated yet .

A Widget is also provided for easy access to the application.

What I think

I think Nokia is going way beyond mobile telephony it’s creating a mobile user experience where one is not confined to their 6 X 6 cubicle but can be connected with everywhere in the world. Starting with their Ovi services Nokia has laid down the foundation stone of itself being not being a cellular company but a total communication powerhouse . After introduction of EasyMeet , Nokia will being new light to collaborative efforts when users can impart ideas through mobile conferences . Apart from Office use where it will become a necessity ( I sure will advocate it’s use to my management ) the system can also be uses for ‘distance learning ‘ where a lecturer sitting in  Kalamazoo can hold a lecture for students from Kilimanjaro to Kualalumpur .  Mix it with the TV out feature of N97 / N95 /  N85 and a Pico Projector and you’ve got a classroom on the go in your hands .

Again the possibilities are endless from schools to offices to online family reunions to friends meeting across the world one is only limited by the sense applied to use the technology
