Usually I don’t cover local Telecom news but with Warid Telecom ,well I’ve a different relationship , the firm where I work for has one of the largest connection accounts with Waird across the country and have met some really nice and knowledgeable people from both Singtel and Warid in the due course .
For the past few months there had been rumors of Warid Telecom being sold , a news of concern for us too as what will happen to our relationship , first it was that Telenor will purchase them than came Zong / China Mobile and final rumor was that PTCL ( Pakistan Telecom a subsidy of Etisalat – Dubai ) will buy them but finally today got a piece of information from Warid that they are to stay in Pakistan and not being sold .
As per the Press Statement of Mr Bashir Tahir - CEO Warid
“ WARID TELECOM PAKISTAN CATEGORICALLY AND UNEQUIVOCALLY DENIES SUCH REPORTS AND IMPRESSIONS. WARID TELECOM PAKISTAN IS NOT BEING SOLD OFF RATHER IS ON COURSE WITH ITS EXPANSION PLANS WITH THE CONTINUING FOCUSED VIEW TO EXTEND QUALITY SERVICES TO ITS LOYAL CUSTOMERS TO WHOM IT IS DEEPLY GRATEFUL. “
I copied as it is and the letter was all in CAPS - man the guy is shouting at the top of his lungs that they are here to stay in Pakistan
Warid is not a small company , with Abu Dhabi Group behind them ,they have a couple of banks ( UBL and Bank Alfalah ) and a WiMax company behind them .
One of the main reasons of Warid and other Telecom operators facing a hard time in Pakistan is declining call prices , I can call US and plenty of other countries in Europe and China for 40 min or more for a mere Dollar , my unlimited data rate is only USD 5.9 / month ( Cap at 2GB but unlimited for me - special relationship with Warid ) on top of that for corporate they offer bulk discounts and other data services which me and likes are using but the bottom line is always hurting
So I’m happy about Warid not being sold , what about you ???
